Commission Junction, Banners or Google AdSense?

So you have a web site or web sites, and you’re interested in making money online. Where should you focus your money making opportunities? Commission Junction, paid banners or Google AdSense?

The answer: all 3 (and more)

You should experiment with everything on your site, find out what works and what doesn’t. Google AdSense is a easy way to make some money on the web site, but you could definitely be selling yourself short. Shoemoney now frowns on AdSense on the site saying basically you’re selling your traffic away. Instead of having a potential new visitor to the site, you might be throwing him away for .10 cents. In the end, that visitor could be worth much much more.

My thoughts on the big 3 – Shoemoney, ProBlogger and Chow

First off I want to say that I’m very new to the area of making money online via passive income streams. I’ve been in the field of web development over the course of 8 years, and my primary source of income is designing web applications for clients. So I’m not new with the web… just the enterprise of affiliate marketing and professional blogging.

When I started, I stared with Google AdSense on a community site resource web site I stared in 2000. Earnings were incredibly meager, approximately $5 – $15 per month. Nothing to get excited about, but as the months went by and my education of this field grew, earnings have been steadily increasing. My sites have grown, and I’ve joined multiple networks to help understand what pays for me, and what is not working so hot. Now, I’m breaking the $1000 per month threshold. Still nothing to get too excited about, but I’m seeing trends, and I’m starting to understand the ‘game’.

Using eBay’s API to search auctions and return results

Some of you have are familiar with eBay’s RSS feeds to return auctions based off of ‘static’ search, meaning it’s a search that you’ve performed and a search that will return the auctions based off of the same search criteria. Let’s say you want to let visitors to your site enter search terms have a auctions returned directly within your site.

To do this you’ll need to use eBay’s API. This is more advanced than the other tools that eBay provides (RSS, Editor Kit, Flexible Destination Tool), but is not too bad. As I’ve stated earlier, I primarily code in PHP/MySQL, so these examples will be geared towards that language.

Capture search data on your site

In early September, ShoeMoney posed this question “Are You Selling Your Search Data For Pennies”. This was a very interesting post talking about using AdSense for search (
) to search your site and possibly generate revenue. This can be a great revenue tool for some, but as ShoeMoney mentions, that you are possibly throwing away incredibly useful data.

On one of my sites (eBay niche site using RSS feeds to populate the store), I thought it would be a great opportunity to see what my visitors might be interested to see on the site. I recently included the eBay API to pull in ‘featured’ auctions, but what featured auctions would be successful for me?

Welcome to Money-Code.com

Welcome to Money-Code.com! As I explored the world of affiliate marketing, site monetization and pro-blogging, I’ve come across many people posting questions and asking me personally about how to solve their application problems. To be a successful online marketer, it’s extremely important to understand the technology, so you can stand out of the pack.

What I want to accomplish with this site is to log may daily thoughts and attempts at becoming a successful online marketer, as well as posting coding tips and tricks. I’ll be mainly discussing the LAMP environment (Linux Apache Mysql Php). I primarily program with PHP4, but do development in .NET/C# as well as vanilla ASP, so those snippets will pop up as time goes on. I also manage my own servers using Gentoo Linux, and I’ll be discussing the importance of having your own server to publish your sites on.
