Quantity or Quality?

So there is a discussion at Digital Point that got me thinking. Is it better to have a 100 good store fronts (eBay or whatever) or a few “quality” earners? In my opinion, the answer is both. Before getting into web development and computers, I was a cook in a restaurant for 10 years, and this question is somewhat similar to what servers use to talk about. Is it better to have lots of small tables (2 tops, etc) or large tables. The argument is based on the fact that large tables usually have high gratuity (tips), but are much harder to maintain and are slower to turn. Where small tables are quick, smaller tips, but at the end of the night you actually get to serve a higher number of people. Usually the person with small tables all night will produce better tips than the person with the big tables.

popshops

PopShops

In my constant search for finding ways to monetize sites, I started hearing the buzz about PopShops. Okay, I’ll bite. Basically, PopShops is a aggregator of datafeeds from multiple affiliate networks out there. Basically, they take in datafeeds from merchants within affiliate networks and gives you the ability to add products (across networks) and present that within your web site. They currently offer a “free” plan which gives you 10 pages/store/showcase, whatever makes sense to you. Also the free account only gives you javascript delivery method. Immediately, I didn’t like the free account, since I want bots to be able to read my pages, and javascript won’t cut it.

January better than December.. How can this be?

December was my largest month to date with a total $1400+ in CJ. I pushed hard in October and November to catch some of the X-mas action, and I did get a slice of it. I was quite pleased with the results. One thing that I noticed immediately after Christmas was that sales continued? I figured it was still related to holiday buzz, so I didn’t take much stock into it. But by mid January, may sales were still continuing at record pace?? Sure enough my commissions actually exceeded December! They haven’t locked yet, but I’m looking $1585 for the month in CJ.

Here is a break down of commissions, sales and leads. I wanted to show you this, since there is some useful information to present.

End the stop and go effect

Lately I’ve been talking to a good blend of internet marketing rookies as well as seasoned veterans. These discussions let me see trends, habits and thinking from various sides of affiliate marketers. One thing that I’m learning, either by talking to the vets or noticing it in my own perosnal experience, is to end the “stop and go” effect. This is the idea of building and or promoting, then stopping to see what comes from it… or taking a break. Then after you see improvement, you start up again. As a few of you might notice, is that I preach the “be productive” moto, and this can be easily applied to this. The stop and go can really slow down your rate of success, during the period of not doing anything.. or waiting, you could have pushed out more sites, or worked on traffic generation. I always see the posts on forums referring to not making money on x number of sites, and now I want to try again. Continue reading
